PewPew
Virtual joysticks in the corners control the action
Here's the long-awaited sequel to PewPew, the multidirectional shoot 'em up akin to Geometry Wars. Expect retro graphics, megatons of enemies, and a frame rate rarely achieved by other games. While there isn't much of an in-depth story in PewPew, you'll find plenty of enjoyment destroying your enemies over and over again.
Seven Modes, Seven Games
There are seven very different game modes, including three favorites from the first PewPew:
Dodge This: As you collect boxes, there are more and more enemies moving around. Naturally, you have to dodge them all.
Assault: You fight against waves of enemies. Spoiler alert: At the end, they win and you die.
Chromatic Conflict (not safe for colorblind individuals): Enemies of different color appear. You can destroy only the ones that are the same color as your ship.
New modes include Pandemonium and Highway, as well as two more that must be unlocked.
Game-Changing Features
Several features set PewPew apart from the run-of-the-mill arcade experience. First and foremost, there's the high frame-rate that defines the game. Then there's the finely tuned gameplay. Online leaderboards and online replays extend the excitement. Finally, there's sweet mood music that adds to the retro feel and helps define the PewPew universe. PewPew 2 has new music, and the arenas now react to it.
Fine-Tune Your Game
PewPew's developer offers technical hints in two areas. First, shut down as many background apps as you can if you notice a bit of lag during gameplay; this can considerably increase the smoothness of play. If possible, shut them all down. Second, on some devices the touch screen has trouble handling touches on the same horizontal or vertical axis. That is why, by default, the virtual joysticks are located diagonally on your screen. You can try moving the joysticks to the bottom using the settings menu, but it might reduce the precision of your controls.
